Sterlite shuts copper smelter plant in TN, stock sinks 4%

Sterlite Industries fell nearly 4% on news that the company had to shut down its copper smelter in Tuticorin after the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board issued a notice following a suspected sulphur dioxide leak last week.

The management of the company said they will work with Tamil Nadu regulator to restart operations. The news also impacted Sesa Goa , which was down 2.5%.

At 10:42 hrs Sterlite Industries (India) was quoting at Rs 90.40, down Rs 3.40, or 3.62%. It has touched a 52-week low of Rs 89.15.
 
It has touched an intraday high of Rs 92.80 and an intraday low of Rs 89.15. It was trading with volumes of 326,382 shares.
 
In the previous trading session, the share closed up 2.91% or Rs 2.65 at Rs 93.80.
 
The share touched its 52-week high Rs 123.35 and 52-week low Rs 89.90 on 03 January, 2013 and 04 March, 2013, respectively.
